Road Bike Tyres

Most road bike tyres feature a diameter of 700c and are often 23mm wide, unless stated otherwise. Thicker road tyres can be 25-30mm wide – providing a smoother, more comfortable ride.

Before purchasing a brand-new set of tyres, ensure you are buying the right size by checking the aspects of your wheels.

Choosing your tread is the next step…

Slick tyres with little to no tread will optimize your speed, while tyres with some tread will enhance your grip. This option is suited to riders who ride in various conditions, from dry to wet.

Gravel Bike Tyres

Tyres used for gravel bikes need to offer more grip than road bike tyres and are therefore often wider.

Gravel tyres are designed to be more resistant when tackling the unsealed roads with thicker walls to prevent unwanted flat or punctured tyres.

However, no tyre is puncture-proof. Carrying a small tool kit in a bike bag is always recommended.

Mountain Bike Tyres

Mountain bike tyres (or MTB tyres) come in various diameters to suit wheels of all sizes.

From 26 inch to 29 inch, MTB tyres feature distinctive treads to optimize grip and traction.

Tyres with a bigger and more prominent tread will provide greater traction, particularly in wet and muddy conditions. While thinner, lighter tyres will offer greater momentum on trails with less room for error.
