The chain tool holds the cassette while the other tool, for example the 09C3 for HG cassettes, loosens the cassette lock ring. This must be loosened in the direction of the freewheel. Holding the cassette by hand is not recommended. With this chain tool, which you should actually call cassette counterholder, the job is done in no time.
